Repairing Corrupt Outlook PST Files
If you use Microsoft Outlook and you have been faced with an Outlook .pst file error you know what a pain it is to deal with. The thing about Outlook is that it stores all your emails, contacts, calendar entries, and more in a single .pst file. While many people don’t even notice this, the moment you have a problem with the file you’ll know how important it is.
Fortunately it’s definitely possible to fix your .pst and fix your data. Step one is the run scanpst.exe, also called the Inbox Repair Tool. This is the recovery tool provided by Microsoft with Outlook. Sadly, sometimes scanpst.exe is not enough to fully recover the file. For example, it’s not going to help with files that have exceeded 2gb. Unfortunately scanpst.exe is not always the most helpful or useful tool. It also can’t recover forgotten passwords.
How Come .pst Files Get Corrupted?
There are so many reasons behind the mysterious corruption of a file. Sometimes it’s caused by the file exceeding the 2gb limit (that’s the file size limit for sub 64 bit operating systems). Windows doesn’t like this and will often have a meltdown. Another way that files get corrupted is if the compaction is interrupted, or if the computer was improperly shut down.
The good news is that not all is lost. Thankfully there are quite a few ways to solve such problems. There are some very robust software applications particularly designed to repair pst file and folders.
Trying Bigger And Better Software
If scanpst.exe doesn’t solve the issue then you might want to try a more powerful software tool. One great program is called Stellar Outlook PST Repair, which is quite easy to use for most people thanks to the fact that it’s so similar to the Outlook program itself.
Stellar Outlook PST is available as a free trial download as well that will enable you to see if your .pst file is recoverable or repairable, and it will let you preview it.
If you want more information about the program check out our Stellar Outlook PST Repair Review over at our data recovery website.
